Nuffield Research Placement students reach final of Big Bang Competition

Congratulations to all our Nuffield Research Placements students who have made it to the finals of this year’s Big Bang Competition (previously known as The National Science & Engineering Competition).

New pregnancy testing technique needs limits says ethics body

A new report on non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) by the Nuffield Council on Bioethics expresses concerns about the way the test is being sold by private providers. In addition, the Council calls for better information and support; calls for a moratorium on the use of NIPT in sequencing the whole genome of fetuses; and calls for a ban on its use in finding out the sex of the fetus.

UK-wide study shows huge postcode disparity in proportion of children in care

A study by seven British universities and has revealed significant inequalities in child welfare across the UK, with children in the poorest areas at least 10 times more likely than those in the most affluent to become involved in the child protection system. The study is funded by the Nuffield Foundation.
