Project overview
This ambitious research project will develop an unprecedented study of the diverse sources of international law that define the right to a fair trial. It will cover the jurisprudence of international, regional and national courts, as well as the decisions of UN bodies. The project will bring together and analytically compare all of these sources to ensure that States, International and Non-Governmental Organisations, courts, academics and practitioners in all jurisdictions can have ready access to a modern, comprehensive and definitive account of what the right to a fair trial means in international law, particularly in the context of criminal proceedings.
The research undertaken as part of this project will generate a number of outputs:
- A book to be published by Oxford University Press in 2016
- Workshops held by the authors with members of the judiciary and legal profession
- Training materials for those who conduct, participate in and monitor trials around the world
- Short briefing papers on best practices directed to influencing policymakers.
