This NIESR webinar will explore findings from their new Nuffield-funded research on lessons to be learned from fiscal policy since 1993 and apply those insights to the current debt problems resulting from the pandemic. Speakers will consider how best to design guiding principles for public spending plans in the context of uncertainty and the changing state of the economy. Two former Chancellors of the Exchequer – Norman Lamont and Alistair Darling – have contributed to the research, as well as Government Economic Advisors, former central bankers and Chief Secretaries to the Treasury.
