New podcast collaboration announced

By Nuffield Foundation

Nuffield Foundation and the Leverhulme Trust join forces with the Academy of Social Sciences to produce The We Society podcast.

We’re pleased to partner with the Academy of Social Sciences (AcSS) and the Leverhulme Trust, to produce the Academy’s chart-topping podcast, The We Society. Soon to launch its eighth season, the podcast is hosted by the Academy’s President and acclaimed journalist, Will Hutton.

The podcast delves into the stories behind the news, and features conversations with public figures and leading social science experts. Its previous guests have included former US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director General of the World Trade Organisation, and Sir Robert Chote, former Chair of the Office for Budget Responsibility.

The Nuffield Foundation, Leverhulme Trust, and the AcSS form a natural partnership: all believe in the power of evidence-led research to improve people’s lives and find solutions to economic, environmental, and educational challenges.

As one of the leading funders of social and economic policy research, the Nuffield Foundation has a long history of supporting the development of rigorous evidence in pursuit of a more prosperous, fair and inclusive society. At a time of acute geopolitical turmoil, enduring economic stagnation, entrenched inequality, escalating climate crisis, and a polarised public discourse, it is vital that we reach new audiences to shed light on key challenges and to highlight potential solutions. We’re delighted to join forces with the Academy of Social Sciences and the Leverhulme Trust in forthcoming series of The We Society Gavin Kelly, Chief Executive of the Nuffield Foundation

Commenting on the new partnership, Dr Rita Gardner, Chief Executive of the AcSS, said: “We’re very much looking forward to working with both the Nuffield Foundation and Leverhulme Trust in the coming seasons of The We Society podcast. Both organisations are vital, independent funders of social science research and are perfect collaborators to work with us in promoting some of the very best insights from leading social scientists to the public. At a time when universities are under increasing financial pressures, showcasing the vital contributions that the social sciences make to our society is hugely important.”

Professor Anna Vignoles, Director of the Leverhulme Trust, said: “We are thrilled to be collaborating with such like-minded institutions as the Academy of Social Sciences and the Nuffield Foundation on the next few seasons of this compelling podcast.”

Look out for season eight of The We Society on your favourite podcast platform from 21 May.

We improve people’s lives by funding research that informs social policy, primarily in Education, Welfare and Justice. We also fund student programmes that give young people skills and confidence in science and research.

We offer our grant-holders the freedom to frame questions and enable new thinking. Our research must stand up to rigorous academic scrutiny, but we understand that to be successful in effecting change, it also needs to be relevant to people’s experience.
