Campaign for Real Statistics

This grant is to support the Campaign for Real Statistics in its first two years. The Campaign aims to reward the honest use and dissemination of statistics and to promote best practice, while at the same time exposing statistical abuse by government, politicians, companies, advertisers and the mass media.

The Campaign seeks to do this through its website; half-day conferences on statistical issues; seminars for journalists on good statistical practice and a panel of statistical experts for journalists to consult; and an annual report on Government, commercial and media use of statistics, identifying failings and commending improvements. The website will highlight statistical abuses and publish articles addressing areas of statistical confusion as well as conference transcripts. It is hoped that it will serve as an intellectual source for people to consult.
