Spatial relations

Spatial relations is a theme within spatial and geometrical reasoning. Links to relevant activities and resources are on the right hand side of this page.

Spatial relations refer to how objects are located in space in relation to a reference object. Reasoning with spatial relations makes it possible to create spatial images and to manipulate them in the course of solving practical and theoretical problems in mathematics.

This links to visualisation, which is generally understood as the capability to work with visual information. Both spatial reasoning and visualisation play vital roles, not only in geometry itself, but also more widely in mathematics and in mathematics education
